Nellie Greene Smith, age 90

Nellie Greene Smith, age 90, of Ellenboro, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

Nellie was born August 22, 1928 in Rutherford County to the late Noah P. Padgett and Novella Melton Padgett. She worked at the J.C. Cowan plant for many years and was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church. Her service to the Lord included faithfully serving on various church committees and teaching Sunday School in the children's department for forty-eight years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Association and enjoyed collecting antiques. She impacted many lives for God and was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J.C. Greene and by three sisters and three brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James R. Smith; two daughters, Shirley Pittman and husband, Bill and Glennette Lavender all of Ellenboro; son, Dean Greene and wife, Elizabeth of Matthews, NC; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was conducted at Corinth Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
