A community meeting was held Thursday, December 12, 7pm in the Library Auditorium at Isothermal Community College. Over 70 people attended the first community meeting to learn what we can do immediately to stop the killing of animals in Rutherford County. The second meeting was to introduce new attendees to the goals and bring everyone up to date on efforts to adopt the No-Kill Equation to reduce or stop the killing of animals in Rutherford County.

The situation at the shelter is critical. Animals are being killed just to make room for more animals. They only have 15 dog runs, 8 cat cages and 1 feral run. Because strays have to be held 72 hours, owner surrenders can be killed at any time. Help stop the killing of healthy animals due to lack of space.

The No-Kill Equation:

1. Trap Neuter, Release Program for

Free-Living Cats

2. High-Volume, Low-Cost Spay/Neuter

3. Working With Rescue Groups

4. A Foster Care Program

5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs

6. Pet Retention Programs

7. Medical and Behavior Rehabilitation

8. Public Relations/Community Involvement

9. Working With Volunteers

10. Progressive Field Services &

Proactive Redemptions

11. A Compassionate, Hard Working Director

They have received 5,500 pounds of pet food from Lulu’s Rescue in Bucks County, PA. They are here to help those who need it to keep their animals and not surrender them to the shelter. They have food available to Rutherford County residents, especially those on public assistance or having a crisis at the moment (illness, death in family, high utility costs, etc.). The Humane Society is currently out of food. They want to be there “as needed”.
