Whirlwind romances don't always end up in happily-ever-after. But for Scott and Emily Bowers, it did.

The couple met in October 2000 when Scott - who lived next door to Emily's mother - knocked on the door and Emily answered.

"They had been really good friends for a while and I heard her talk about him often," Emily said. "I don't know if it was love at first sight, but there was a definite moment where time seemed to stop when I opened the door."

Scott came in to talk with Emily's mom briefly, giving them both a hug before leaving. "In that moment I knew I was in trouble," Emily said. "It was almost as though I had been in his arms forever. And it was comfortable and where I always wanted to be."

For Scott, there are two moments that stand out: when Emily walked into the bar he was running in Charlotte, and he realized he was going to marry her. The second was when that feeling was confirmed after their first kiss.

"He kissed me for the first time on April 19, 2001," Emily said. "We wanted to get married a week later, but my mother said it had to be in a church. So we waited a month to the day."

Both admit that they are not the same people they were when they married, but being able to be ever-changing is key to a lasting relationship.

"Don't keep a scorecard," Scott said. "If someone does something nice or something wrong in the marriage, let it go equally. Appreciate the nice moments, but stay level."

For Scott and Emily, Valentine's Day isn't special.

"We vowed to always make every day Valentine's Day," Emily said. "And we ignore the real one."
