Owls

Forest City (17-24, 8-6) has collected some momentum, but will it be enough to make the playoffs? They have won four of their last six and sit sixth overall in the Coastal Plain League West Division.

There is one slight monkey wrench for the Owls. They have to finish in the top five of the West no matter what there overall win percentage is, just to be eligible. Right now, Forest City sits three games behind Lexington for fifth with 11 games left this season. Forest City has made six trips to the CPL postseason in it's seven year history amongst the league.

Little League All Stars

Rutherfordton's Junior League boys team was sitting at 3-1 in the State Tourney in Brevard at last check. If they were to win state, it would off the Regionals.

Rutherfordton's Little League baseball 11-12 boys All-Stars will go to Brevard this coming week after capturing the District One title.

Rutherfordton's girls 11/12 softball made state in Washington, NC, but rain had been plaguing the tourney at last check. If there are anymore little league all-star updates, I would love to receive them.

NASCAR

Okay, I admit it. Maybe I'm wrong about Kyle Busch. I don't change my mind about certain things, but Kyle Busch and his Joe Gibbs Racing team have made me rethink things a little.

I said that Busch didn't deserve a postseason spot because he missed races. In the past, drivers have missed races and not been able to compete for the championship. Denny Hamlin most recently was the one exception. Kyle Busch is about to make it number two. I didn't agree with Denny making the postseason that season either, but Kyle Busch has redefined things if you will. Busch has won three of the last four races and sits 58 points away from the guideline of 30th in the standings. Heck, he might even get to the top 25 if he keeps winning races. Busch has nothing to lose, so why not unleash him. It's working so far.

There are seven races left before "The Chase". Next up is Indy this coming Sunday. Busch has won at six of those seven tracks which remain and the one exception is Indy.

Atlanta Braves

Lastly, the Braves were five games behind in the wild card race, but now it's seven after losing two of three to the Cubs this weekend. They sit eight overall in the National League and let's face it, the Pirates, Cubs, Giants and Mets look much better than the Braves at this point. Of the top seven teams in the NL, two will be disappointed at the end of September and they all seem to be postseason caliber.
