Owls Struggling, Post 423 Improving

It's been a tough start to the summer for Forest City's Coastal Plain League baseball team. The Owls have found more ways to lose a game than one can even believe.

It's just been crazy so far. They have lost a three run lead and only needing one out to win. The bullpen has faltered one night, errors happen at a bad time, the bats don't get going that night or in enough manner to formulate runs. They have stranded runners and got caught in the middle of what turned out to be double plays.

This is not a slam on the team, it's just been strange, weird, crazy and some bad luck if you wish want to even say. Granted, most of these college guys have never played amongst each other on the diamond, so it does take a little time to adjust. Still, Forest City is accustomed to winning with the Owls most summers.

The Owls sit 2-8 at the moment, but if they can still finish out the last 18 of the first half of the season on a winning streak, at least that puts them back in wildcard mode. Plus, they still have the second half of the season to get into playoff contention.

If there is some good news, they are averaging 7.4 hits per game and lost 6 of eight games by three runs or less. Rob Koski, Brady Policelli and Hezekiah Randolph all have five RBI each.

Legion Baseball: Post 423

Rutherford County's Legion baseball team (4-6) rolled out to a slow start, but things are getting a little better. Post 423 has won two of their last three, including a big win over Cherryville and then a come from behind win at Burke County, 11-10. The next home game won't be until June 23 against Burke County at McNair Field. They are now seventh in the Western Division of Area IV among North Carolina legion baseball teams. Right now, they sit just on the cusp as eight teams from the West will make the playoffs.

NBA Finals

I have felt all along that Golden State would beat Cleveland in five games. With Kyrie Irving out, it might be four games. You kind of have to think that Lebron James could make a case to give the Cavaliers one game. Still, this is Golden State's championship to lose at this moment.

In my lifetime, I have never seen a triple crown winner and may never see it again. Many have won the first two, but can never complete the trifecta. American Pharaoh led wire-to-wire on Saturday to complete the Triple Crown. I guess it was just meant to be.

NASCAR

No doubt, I had seen this one coming all year long and finally Martin Truex Jr. has won a race in 2015. The win at Pocono ended a 69-race winless drought and gave Truex his third career win. Truex has been "Mr. Consistent" so far with 13 top tens and four top 5's. He sits second in points and I wouldn't have believed that part with 14 races into the season. Michigan is up next.
