Paul David Fulham, Sr., 84, passed away on April 14, 2016.

A memorial service was held at the Fairfield Mountains Chapel. Inurnment followed the services at the Chapel Columbarium.

The youngest of three boys, Paul was born in Boston and raised in Winthrop, MA. He lit up the families faces with his fascinating tales of a young boy growing up in a fishing harbor where he scavenged the sea shore, rode the produce wagons with his long-time friend "Babe", learned the fishing trade at the Boston pier, and performed as an extra with the Boston Opera. Memories that will be embellished and passed down for generations.

Paul attended Winthrop High School, Northeastern University and Boston College. Following college, he joined The Fulham Brothers fishing company, and then went to work for the Department of Commerce, retiring in 1995.

At age sixteen, he was smitten by a young girl named Ruth Stanton Kaiser. They were married when she was 19 and he was 21. They loved dancing and as a young couple they could be seen twirling around the dance floors, dancing to the big bands of the era. This past November they celebrated 62 years together. Paul's job with the government took them to each coast of the US. Employed first in Boston, then in Washington, D.C., followed

by Long Beach, CA, Galveston, TX , and finally transferred to St. Petersburg, FL. Following retirement, they made their home in Lake Lure, NC. Lake Lure has been their longest place of residence and the place they truly call home, their "little piece of heaven", as he fondly referred to it. The friends he made in Lake Lure, whether it was on the golf course, the volunteer fire department, liars poker group, travel buddies, the postman, a handyman, a man on the street, and his church were all family to him. He had many dear and special friends. He was the consummate host. If you were fortunate enough to be a guest in his home, then you had the experience of being greeted with a smile and a drink in your hand. Paul never met a stranger.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Zita Fulham, and his brother Leonard Fulham. He is survived by his wife Ruth, his brother Robert Fulham and wife Janice of Grafton, MA; three children: Paul and wife Rolanda Fulham of Abilene, TX, Michele and husband Bill Saroukos of Tampa, Fl., and Greg Fulham of St. Petersburg, FL. His true joy has been his six grandchildren and five great-grandsons.

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving and gentle care he received during his last days at the Hospice House and requests that in lieu of flowers, any memorials be sent to the Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043 or the American Cancer Society or the memorial of the donor's choice.

McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
