Paul Robert Gowan, age 80

Paul Robert Gowan, age 80, of Harris, passed away January 14, 2015.

Born January 29, 1934 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Wallace D. Gowan & Dullie Gilbert Gowan.  He worked in textiles most of his life & retired from J.H. Montgomery Mills of Chesnee. Paul was a member & former deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James, Roland & Eugene Gowan; 5 sisters, Bonnie Foster, Virginia Green, Gladys Teston, Catherine Vickers & Wilma Russell.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Alexander Gowan; daughter, Joyce Gowan Silver & husband, Ronnie of Harris; brother, Elbert Gowan of Shelby; 1 granddaughter, Mary Chappell & husband, Steve of Forest City; 3 great-grandchildren, Grant, Makenzie and Jaden.

Memorial donations are suggested to New Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 223 New Bethel Church Rd, Forest City, NC  28043.

Funeral services were conducted at the New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverends Stephen Matheny, Terry Roach & Steve Chappell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
