Peter "Pete" D. Smith, age 77

Peter "Pete" D. Smith, age 77, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Born October 17, 1940 in Manchester, England, he was the son of Charles Smith and Gladys Gamble Smith. Pete was an International Dog Show Judge and a UK Chartered Accountant. He was a highly respected Kennel Club hound judge in England and Europe and also an AKC (American Kennel Club) judge. He judged Otterhounds in Birmingham, England in 2017 at the very prestigious Crufts Kennel Club dog show. Highly sought after for his expertise, he was currently judging for IABCA (International All Breed Canine Association). Pete bred and exhibited Bloodhounds in England under the affix "Actaeon". Although his passion was Bloodhounds, he also bred and exhibited Otterhounds. He was an Otterhound mentor to many in the dog world and offered a wealth of knowledge and education to the dog show fancy. He was highly educated and received a musical scholarship for the violin to the Lancashire Youth Orchestra. Later he taught viola to students at Lancashire Youth Orchestra. Pete was a very sensitive and compassionate man, outraged by prejudice and inequalities of the time, at just 19 years old he started the Eccles Asian Social Club in Manchester, England.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, JoAnn Freise of Forest City; sister, Jacquie Hutcheon of Stirling, Scotland; two nephews, Kurt Hutcheon (Gill) of Cornwall, England and Steven Hutcheon of Manchester, England; niece, Lisa McNeill Ritchie (Callum) of Stirling; three great-nephews, Jonathan Hutcheon of Manchester, Caden McNeill Ritchie and Adrian McNeill Ritchie both of Stirling and a great-niece, Victoria Hutcheon of Queenstown, New Zealand.

In honor of the family's request, no formal services will be held.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
