It's hard to believe, but another school year has passed. While there is less than a month to go before graduation, the spring sports season is coming to a close. Playoff brackets were announced Monday.

High School Playoffs

The only school that looks to host playoff games at home this spring is R-S Central. Baseball, Softball (vs. Wheatmore) and Girls Soccer (vs. West Wilkes) hosted in the first round Wednesday. Considering the weather, it could be Thursday evening. The second round begins on Saturday if any of the three survive round one. The Lady Hilltoppers softball team could end up hosting Owen in the second round. R-S Central girls soccer could host Polk County or Lincolnton Saturday.

East Rutherford Baseball and Girls Soccer (at Central Academy) will be on the road Wednesday in round one. In a late twist of events, East Rutherford softball welcomed Polk County. They could face Madison on the road in the second round East Rutherford Girls Soccer could face top-seeded Newton Conover in the second round.

Chase Baseball and Thomas Jefferson Girls Soccer will also be on the road Wednesday at East Montgomery. Third and fourth round action would take place Tuesday, May 17 and Friday, May 20.

NASCAR

What a shock? Kyle Busch continues to win, this time in Kansas. Busch has just two tracks on the circuit that he hasn't won at. He will get a crack at both in the next month. He has never won a Cup race at Charlotte, or Pocono. The Coke 600 takes place at Charlotte on May 29. Pocono follows the next week. I believe Kyle Busch will do it. Maybe not within the next month, but maybe by the end of the year. Although, Busch has been so hot lately, the shot is very possible right now.

I feel bad for Martin Truex Jr. who should have won. The guy leads all those laps on Saturday night and a loose wheel causes him to lose the lead and finish 14th. Truex was the head of the class Saturday. He runs well at Dover and Pocono, so expect him to win sometime down the line this season.

NBA Playoffs

It's seemed all season that Golden State and Cleveland would meet for the championship. Cleveland is holding up it's end of the bargain and Golden State has for the most part. Golden State continues to play without Stephen Curry as they led Portland 2-1 in their series. I have a feeling we could see Curry back on the court soon. Damian Lillard has been nothing short of spectacular for Portland.

Even if Golden State gets past Portland and I expect them too, San Antonio or Oklahoma City are next in line. Nobody doubts the Spurs, but the Thunder continue to make things interesting and could spoil the upset. If this series goes seven games, I like the Thunder. The Spurs have the better coaching, but older players.

Cleveland has to worry about Miami or Toronto next as the Raptors led the series on Sunday night 2-1. These two might wear each other out before one of them gets to face the Cavaliers.
