Just two weeks of SMAC play is left and a regular season baseball title is up for grabs.

Now that Crest has lost three of their last five games...the SMAC title may just go to R-S Central or East Rutherford. Both teams are tied atop the standings, but East Rutherford has the head-to-head advantage at this moment. Both teams also have a two-game lead over everyone else.

R-S Central (13-3, 10-2) is legit in the fact that they have allowed just 15 runs in conference so far and 34 overall. If you allow just one run in conference play and two overall, your going to win to some games.

Outstanding Senior, Dillon Phillips leads this pitching staff. Marty Barella, Jace Crowe and Quentin Harris have done the job as well from the mound, but offensive consistency continues to be an issue. However, when the Hilltoppers do get on base, they do have some speed in places to generate a run or two in games.

East Rutherford (13-2, 10-2) has been on fire as of late. The Cavs have now won eight in a row and beat up on a pretty good Chesnee team last week. They won three times last week. As a matter of fact, they were losing to Burns 3-1 and then East posted a double-digit inning on the scoreboard to win 19-8.

There is no doubt, anybody in that lineup is liable to burn the opposition at the plate at any moment. Kendall McGowan is about as solid as they come with a bat in his hands, but Tyler Bridges, Holden Greene, Josh Searcy and Kevin Gonzalez have been fairly consistent at the plate.

McGowan also leads the pitching staff and by far has been the most effective. Issac Toney and Storm Mace have held their own on the mound as well. During this eight-game win streak, the Cavs have outscored the opposition 82-21.

Both teams have just four conference games left with the rematch between East-Central at R-S Central on May 2nd.
