Ramona McAbee Freeman, 65, of Rutherfordton, went to be with the Lord Thursday, September 6, 2012. 

A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Annie Smith McAbee. She was a retired owner/operator of The Flower Shop and a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. Ramona was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and she was dearly loved.

She is survived by her husband, James Freeman of the home; son, Stephen Todd Layton of Topeka, KS; daughter Janet Chrystal Burden and husband Greg of Topeka, KS; stepsons, Brett Sheridan Freeman of Bostic and Brian David Freeman of Boiling Springs, NC; brothers Jerry McAbee of Forest City, Rick McAbee of Rutherfordton and Tim McAbee of Forest City; sisters Lynnis Flynn of Belmont and Rhonda Coffey of Forest City; eight grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Edward McAbee, Kenneth McAbee and Bobby McAbee.

Memorial services were  held at Crowe’s Mortuary with Rev. Paul White officiating. Interment followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Grace of God Rescue Mission.

Crowe’s Mortuary is serving the family.
