R-S Central (3-3, 1-2) did a lot of good things and stuck around with Crest, but fell 23-14 on the road. While the Hilltoppers did give up over 350 yards to Crest, they did a good job of buckling down, allowing them to score just four times. Penalties and two key fumbles were factors in what could have produced a possible upset. R-S Central has the week off but will host Chase on 10/7/16

Chase (3-3, 1-2) got a big road win as they downed Draughn 28-14. Chase will host Crest (4-1, 2-0) on (9/30/16). Last week, the Crest offense was fairly balance yardage wise, but they definitely would rather throw the ball more. Chase has already surpassed their win total of a year ago. They need two more wins to give themselves a shot at the postseason.

East Rutherford (2-3, 0-2), who was on their bye, will host Burns this Friday 9/30/16. Burns (6-0, 3-0) is looking very good right now as I like their chances now to finish second in the SMAC. It should be interesting to see if East can slow Burns down.

Thomas Jefferson (4-1, 0-1) easily won over the Carolina Crusaders, 56-6. The Gryphons face their toughest test of the season as they visit Blacksburg (4-1). The Wildcats are traditionally not that great of a football team, but this year may be the exception.

Chesnee (3-3) will host Landrum this Friday.

Congrats to the Men's Chase (9-0, 7-0) varsity soccer program as they continue to run the table as they beat Shelby this past week, 2-0.

So, the Carolina Panther fall to 1-2 on the year. After dominating the first 25 minutes of Sunday's game, Minnesota dominated the last 35. Carolina's defense was incredible the first half, but it was Minnesota's line play on both sides that caused the Panthers the loss. The loss broke a 13-game win streak at Bank of America Stadium for the Panthers.

It's not the end of the year for Carolina as they can still get better and win the NFC South...first. That all starts this coming week as they go to Atlanta. The only regular season loss Carolina had one year ago was at Atlanta, but the Panthers have won two of the last three in the Georgia Dome.

It takes guts to talk about things outside of sports, especially when that's what your better at. It's hard to imagine that violent protests took place in Charlotte this past week. There are few things that bring us together. Fellowship and being at a sporting event are two of those. I wish we could get back to that. The simple things that make life worth looking forward too. Taking a stand on an issue is okay and fair for those who wish too, but the violence and the vandalism was hard to watch on the news. It was shocking to see so close to home. Right now, we all have our opinions, but I don't have the solution.

As for the NBA and losing the All-Star game in Charlotte, that's political and has nothing to do with sports. Same thing with the ACC ditching Charlotte with the Football Championship. There are six teams (5 ACC/1NBA), two states and their fans affected by those two things. A permanent banishment will not happen because both leagues want money. All six have a following and all six have money to throw around.

As for the National Anthem protesting, there are far better ways to go about protesting. That kind of protest doesn't fix or address the real issue of protest. Those who choose, do have the right to that kind of protest. Still, the National Anthem honors our true heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. High paid athletes wouldn't be living the lives they live and play the game they play without our soldiers sacrifices to protect the USA. In a sense, the National Anthem does honor our police, fire fighters and EMT because of their service to this country (more so since 9/11), but for the most part, it's about what our military has done in order to protect our freedom.
