Listen To Life
Listen To Life

Do you get it right every time?

Do you sometimes expect yourself to get it right every time?

Does your expectation keep you from taking a risk sometimes?  From trying something new that you’ve never done before because you’re afraid you won’t get it right?

I suppose we’re all like that at least a little bit.  Well, the next time you find yourself paralyzed and can’t try something new, I want you to think about this:   Everyone misses the mark at some time.

Need proof?  Okay, do you remember Kevin Costner’s movie, Waterworld?  Probably not.  Or if you do, you remember it as a flop.  What about Tom Hanks in Joe and the Volcano?  Even Wilson is glad to have missed that trip.  And as beautiful as Jennifer Aniston is and as wonderful as she was in Bruce Almighty, did you see her in The Office Space?  If not, please don’t.

Even highly successful people swing and miss.  But they keep on swinging and celebrate the times they hit the bullseye.

And you can, too. Believe you can as you Live Positive and Work Positive today.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
I’ve always considered myself a prepared hunter. Some would say over prepared. I very rarely go into the woods without my backpack. During the colder months this is especially true. Since I’m never absolutely sure as to what the weather will bring, I take just about everything. My backpack is over three-thousand cubic inches. I strategically place additional clothes in it or strapped to it. I carry additional socks, gloves, headgear, and even an extra base-layer shirt just in case I sweat too much while getting to the stand. The nooks and crannies are stuffed full of other things like snacks, a drink, my reading glasses, a book, paper, and a pen.

R-S Central Earns County Championship, Chase-East Square Off Next
R-S Central Earns County Championship, Chase-East Square Off Next

As they say, it’s not how you start, but how you finish! R-S Central had to come back from 14 down in the first half and held off East Rutherford in the classic county rivalry, 20-17.

The Cavaliers scored a field goal just three seconds before the end of the first half to go up 17-7. East then kicks off to Matt Atchley and it will be forever known as “The four point swing, in three seconds of Cavalier doom.”

Listen To Life

How’s your pace?

As I travel and speak to business groups and associations, one of the most common questions I get is, “How do you write all of those stories?” These stories are on the radio and in newspapers across the U.S. and on our blog which reaches hundreds of thousands of people in some 50 countries.

My usual response is something like, “Well, I listen to my life and that’s where the stories come from.” Then lots of times there’s a follow-up question: “But how do you write so many?”  And that’s a fair question since I write about 260 or so a year.

I always answer, “I write them one at a time.”

You see, if I sat down in front of my blank computer screen with that constantly blinking cursor staring at me, and said, “I’ve got to write 260 stories” I’d never write the first one. I’d be paralyzed, frozen, by such a daunting task.

But just about everyday something happens around me and I jot myself a note about it. Later I sit down and write about that experience and it becomes a story. And pretty soon one story in a blog becomes 260.

Today, just listen to life for your story as you Live Positive and Work Positive in a negative world.

Outdoor Truths

One of my favorite creations in our world is that thing we call a “day.” You know, that 24 hours that comes to an end, only to begin another 24 hours. Now I know it doesn’t take much to intrigue me but this has always been something that I have given thought to. And if you think about it, it is one of the most refreshing things about life.

In hunting or fishing it doesn’t matter what yesterday was like, today is a new day. It doesn’t matter that I never saw a deer yesterday, today will be better.

Upcoming: Rivals Clash at R-S Central
Upcoming: Rivals Clash at R-S Central
Red or Blue? Who are you for?
The battle for Rutherford County supremacy on the football field takes place at R-S Central this weekend.  East Rutherford, who has won the past three meetings in the rivalry will square off against R-S Central for what maybe the County championship decider.
If R-S Central wins, they are the county champs and if East wins, they will have to beat Chase the following week to collect the title outright. If East won this weekend and Chase the next, it would be a three-way tie which would be decided on the scoring margin.
