Robert (Bob) Nixon Cuthrell, 93, of Forest City NC passed away Thursday May 28, 2015.

He was born July 8, 1921 to John Adolph and Sadie Carraway Cuthrell. Along with his mother, he was raised by his step-father Ralph Simpson and cherished his family of six half brothers and sisters.

In addition to his parents and stepfather, Bob was preceded in death by a brother Valin Simpson, sister Helen Williams, brothers-in-law Harvey Spruill, John Brown, Leon Williams, Jr. and Ben Hudson, also sister-in-law Pat Allen Hudson. The Cuthrells lost a daughter, Denise, in 1968.

Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas in the European theater. He worked in management, employed by The Harris Teeter Corp for nearly thirty years. His people skills served him well in this job, considering himself a student of human nature. Bob was proud to know and respect people from all walks of life.

A long time member of First Baptist Church of Forest City, Bob was committed to the work of the church. An active member in every sense of the word, he served in many capacities over the years.

He considered it his duty and privilege to work for the betterment of our town, community and country. He supported many charitable causes and worked tirelessly for the Lion's Club as a younger man and for the Shriner's in his later years. He was a member of the Forest City Masonic Lodge 381.

Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anne Hudson Cuthrell, a daughter Mara and her husband Tony Hamrick, three grandsons: Evan Hamrick, Clayton Hamrick and Will Hamrick. Surviving Brothers and Sisters-in-Law John and Shirley Simpson, Hank and Freida Simpson, Sister-in-Law Mary Simpson, Sisters Janis Spruill and Lib Brown. Brothers and Sisters-in-Law Gerald and Marjorie Hudson, Blake and Nancy Hudson and Jean Hudson. His family is blessed with many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held in the First Baptist Church of Forest City with Reverend Billy Honeycutt officiating. Interment was held privately for the immediate family in the Cool Springs Cemetery.
