Robert R. Riley, 85, Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

He was born September 6, 1930 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, a son of the late Harry W. and Mary L. Rinker Riley. He was of the Catholic faith and attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Forest City. A retired veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Sarah and Mary, and four brothers: Jim, Glen, Tom and Alfred Riley.

He is survived by his beloved Giuliana Polinari Riley, two sons: David and Tim Riley, two daughters: Beatrice Riley (Sr. M. Catherine of Siena, MC) and Rebecca Luna, and 6 grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed bluegrass music and baseball, and is fondly remembered for his generosity, quick-witted sense of humor and youthful enthusiasm towards life. He will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him. Plans are in place for his funeral mass and burial to take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
