Roger Clay Weast, age 67 of Forest City passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

Roger was born May 9, 1949 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Albert Clay Weast and Virginia Early Weast. He was employed by Duke Power company at the Cliffside Steam Station for forty-two years and served as an electrical supervisor until he became disabled in 2004. He loved and enjoyed sports and was known as a pitcher for the Shelby Comets in his youth and later coached Little League for both boys and girls for many years. Roger was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Ellenboro. He was a wonderful friend to all and his family has been fortunate to see all the love demonstrated over the past months from caregivers from Hospice of Rutherford County, his church family at Liberty Baptist Church, the nurses and doctors at Levine Cancer Clinic and the many good friends and neighbors that have shown their support. The family would also like to say a very special word of thanks to Nancy Suelzle for her special care and loving voice. Roger was an avid golfer that enjoyed the game and he was especially fond of his friends through the years at Butler's Jewelry. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Caliente from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Weast.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy R. Weast, and his children, Brian W. Weast and his wife Tracy of Bostic, Joey C. Weast and his wife Jessica of Ellenboro, daughter, Melissa Hooker and her husband Tony of Concord, 10 grandchildren, his brother, Harold Weast and his wife Evelyn of Forest City and a sister, Sylvia Lem of Wilmington.

Funeral services were held at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Mack Tester and Reverend George Whitemire officiating. Interment followed in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 821 Webb Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.

The Padgett and King Mortuary and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
