Roger Dobbins, age 87

Roger Dobbins, age 87, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016.

Born April 25, 1928 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Henry C. Dobbins and Myrtle Grayson Dobbins. He was a graduate of Harris High School and also graduated from Business College in Shelby. Roger served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Burlington Industries for twenty years before retirement and was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. Roger was an avid golfer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-mother, Lavenia Summers Dobbins; daughter, Cindy Camby; two brothers, Ernest and Billy Dobbins and sister, Helen Phillips.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Virginia Nell Dobbins; daughter, Janice Cato and husband, Chip of Georgia; brother, Carl Dobbins of Rutherfordton; three granddaughters. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Stephenson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
