Members of the Rutherford Regional Auxiliary Board join RRHS CEO Cindy Buck in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate extensive renovations made to the RRHS Breakaway Cafeteria. Approximately $100,000 was given by the Auxiliary to complete the project.

The Breakaway Café at Rutherford Regional Medical Center re-opened on Monday, March 3, after a three-week renovation made possible by the Rutherford Regional Auxiliary’s gift of approximately $100,000.

Among the improvements include: new flooring that is more easily maintained, new furniture that is lightweight and more modern, increased seating with a better variety of seating options, new glass panes facing the main hospital parking lot that are more energy efficient, improved trash receptacles, flat-screen televisions in multiple areas of the café, and local artwork featuring outdoor scenes from throughout the region.

At its monthly meeting on March 3, the RRHS Auxiliary Board was granted a first look and walk-through of the cafeteria improvements made possible by the Auxiliary’s gifts, which were contributed over a two-year period. A ribbon-cutting was held and the announcement was made that a permanent plaque would hang in the cafeteria to highlight the Auxiliary’s role in the project.

Cindy Buck, president and CEO of Rutherford Regional, spoke to the Auxiliary board members, saying, “We learned as soon as we temporarily shut down the dining room for renovations how vastly important this area of the hospital is to everyone who enjoys it on a daily basis. I can truly say that your funds and your efforts to transform the Breakaway Café will improve the quality of life and work at Rutherford Regional.”

Cafeteria operations have resumed under regular schedule for all patients, guests and staff.
