Participants in Rutherford Regional’s Clinical Pastoral Education Program who took part in commencement recently are, clockwise from front, Cecilia Casino, Mary Wiggins, Debra Sue Chenault, Eric Holloway and Sarah Rossing.

Five interns in the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Rutherford Regional Health System took part in a commencement ceremony Aug. 3 at St. Luke’s Chapel, on the campus of Rutherford Regional Medical Center. 

The School of Clinical Pastoral Education of Rutherford Regional Medical Center is accredited to offer CPE Levels I and II by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). ACPE is nationally recognized as an accrediting agency in the field of clinical pastoral education by the U.S. Secretary of Education through the U.S. Department of Education. 

Participants in the program function as chaplains at Rutherford Regional and are recognized as members of the healthcare team. Students are led by certified ACPE Supervisor the Rev. Don Ledbetter. 

Those who took part in commencement are: 

Cecilia Casino, who is affiliated with the Seoul International Baptist Church. Cecilia holds a bachelor of theology and bachelor of religious education from Nazarene Bible College, La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. She earned a master of arts (M.A.) in Religious Education from  Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary, Taytay, Rizal, Philippines, and a master of arts in education (teaching English as a second language) from Benguet State University, La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. Cecilia also holds a doctor of theology (Th.D.) in Pastoral Care and Counseling, Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary, Baguio City, Philippines on June 16, 1998. She has served as a senior pastor and has taught at all educational levels and served as adjunct professor of pastoral care at Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary, Philippines. 

Debra Sue Chenault, who is affiliated with the Open Heart Meditation/Padmacahaya Institude for Inner Studies. She earned the Bachelors of Arts in Economics and Business at Emory and Henry College, Emory, Va., and completed a Certificate of Completion of German at the Goethe Institute, Prien, Germany. Debra fulfilled the requirements for the master of divinity (M.Div) at the Saint Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Mo. She has served with United Methodist Urban Ministry, First Christian Church and Atchison United Methodist Church, United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries and most recently Child Service Coordinator and Care Coordination For Children with the Buncombe County Department of Health and North Carolina Public Alliance in Asheville.

Eric Holloway, who is affiliated with the Episcopal Church and member of the Diocese of Texas. He completed the B.A. Degree in Political Science from Huston-Tillotson University, Austin, Texas, and  is currently a candidate for the master of divinity degree (M.Div.) at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. His work history includes owner and operator of Tortorice’s and Giovanni’s Pizza, Panera Bread Manager and currently front desk receptionist at St. David’s Episcopal Church, where he is also a member of the congregation.  

Mary Wiggins, who is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and a member of the Rocky Mountain Synod. Mary graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.A. degree in Anthropology. Her work experience includes, Books-n-Things and the Lutheran-Episcopal Campus Ministry at the University of Northern Colorado. Mary is currently enrolled in the master of divinity program at the Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa.

Sarah R. Rossing, who is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and a member of the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Synod. She graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., with a bachelor of arts, Art History and Spanish, and is currently enrolled in the master of divinity program, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.  Sarah has also worked as Head Counselor with the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta; Voluntaria y Maestra de Inglés, Cuernavaca, Mexico (ELCA Global Missions);  Program Coordinator, Washington, DC ((Lutheran Volunteer Corps/Americorps); Volunteer and Community Resource Developer, (Refugee Immigrant Services Program, Lutheran Social Services).
