Janie Thompson and Albert Mode welcomed the first baby born in 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center Tuesday, Jan. 1. 

Hope Destiny Mode arrived at 8:22 am weighing 7 pounds, and 9-1/4 ounces and 19 inches long. Hope was greeted by big sister Courtney and her grandparents Barbara Shires, James Shires and Pat and Garrett Mode. 

Dr. Robin Pendleton and assisted by Dr. James Godfrey of Rutherford OB-GYN delivered Hope. 

Hope and her family received several gifts for being the first baby born in the new year, including a stuffed animal from Spindazzle; a crocheted blanket, sweater and cap, car seat and diapers from The Birth Place at Rutherford Regional; a quilt from the Rutherford County Quilt Guild; $25 gift certificate and picture from Smith’s Drug; tote bag from Belk; picture frame from Spindale Florist; “My First Visitors” Autograph Dog from The Gift Shop at Rutherford Regional; and gift certificates from Big Dave’s and Fatz.
