Rutherford Regional’s Cancer Resource Center is reaping the benefits of one local group’s passion.

The non-profit Rutherford Quilt Guild has donated a confetti cake pattern quilt to the Rutherford Regional Health Foundation to be raffled. Proceeds from the raffle ticket sales will be used by the Foundation to support Rutherford Regional’s Mammogram Program and Rutherford Regional Cancer Resource Center’s Cancer Patient Navigator Program.

The quilt was made by Connie Wells, a member of the Guild. Each year the Guild chooses other organizations to support. Wells is a recipient of patient navigation. Diagnosed in September 2012 with breast cancer, Wells said that the day she learned she had cancer her husband called the Cancer Resource Center.

“Within 15 minutes, my navigator was there,” she said.

Wells navigator went to every doctor’s appointment with her, making her journey with cancer much easier.

“I think anyone who goes through something like cancer asks what they can do to give back,” Wells explained. “I’m a quilter – that was what was best for me to give back – so when the Guild was looking at service projects, I said I wanted to make a quilt for the Cancer Resource Center.”

The quilt measures 74-inches-by-85-inches and is valued at $700. Tickets for the quilt can be purchased at Rutherford Regional’s Cancer Resource Center or from members of the Rutherford Quilt Guild. Suggested donation is $1 each ticket or six tickets for $5. The drawing will be held May 5.
