In what has become an anticipated annual event, the Pink Ladies Cancer Support Group’s Indoor Yard Sale will be held March 22 from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Cancer Resource Center in Forest City. The Center is located inside Rutherford Regional Health System’s OneSource Building adjacent to Belk at Tri-City Mall.

This marks the fifth year for the Pink Ladies Indoor Yard Sale, said Freda Ledford, a member of the support group who also heads up the sale. “It’s turned out to be a very profitable thing for us to do, but more than that it gives us, as cancer survivors, an opportunity to give back to our community,” Ledford said. “We always have a good crowd.”

In past years, proceeds from the sale have been given to the Rutherford Regional Health Foundation to benefit the mammogram program, which pays for mammograms for uninsured women who meet certain criteria. This year, however, the Pink Ladies will use the project to help fund Rutherford Regional’s Patient Navigator program. Patient Navigators are experienced cancer care nurses who assist newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families to understand their cancer diagnosis and treatment. In addition, Patient Navigators assist patients by arranging transportation, medical appointments and working through the logistics of receiving the care they need.

“We are fortunate to have a hospital system that recognizes the value of supporting cancer patients and their families throughout the cancer care continuum,” said Jamie Ingraham, Rutherford Regional’s Cancer Outreach program manager. “Cancer is a disease that affects every aspect of a patient’s emotional and physical well-being. Having a nurse dedicated to ensuring that journey is smooth and comprehensible is the quality of care that RRHS is committed to.”

The indoor yard sale features a variety of items, Ledford said, from household items like pictures and flower arrangements to clothing and toys.

“We have pretty much anything you can think of, and because it is an indoor yard sale, regardless of rain or cold, the sale is on!” she added.

And there’s always room for more, Ledford said. Donations of yard sale items will be taken at the Cancer Resource Center through March 20. Receipts are available for those who would like one.
