On November 28 The Clinic at Walmart, operated by Rutherford Regional Health System, opened inside the Forest City store along Business 74 Highway. The facility is a walk-in medical office open seven days a week, including evenings. No appointment is necessary for treatment.

It is staffed primarily by nurse practitioners and physician assistants, but operates under the direction of a family practice physician. The providers in the Clinic can prescribe medications, and the Clinic is accredited by The Joint Commission.

The Clinic at Walmart should be used by those suffering from common illnesses and minor injuries. The Clinic also offers wellness services, screenings and tests. In addition, the Clinic can help you find a primary care provider if needed. Most insurance plans are accepted, but there is also a set fee structure for those without insurance who pay at the time of service.

    Hours of operation are: Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

“We know that seven-day-a-week, walk-in clinics fill a community need for convenient and affordable care,” said David Bixler, president and CEO of Rutherford Regional Health System. “That’s why we are working with Walmart to expand access to that kind of quality care for all residents in our area.”

Bixler explained that the Clinic at Walmart should provide a welcome option for those who need immediate care, but who do not need to use the Emergency Department. Because the Clinic is open seven days a week, and offers evening hours, a large number of residents in this area now have a suitable alternative to the emergency department experience where more severe cases should be seen.

Bixler added, “The clinic also will fill a need for many of our patients who may not have a family physician. They can come here at night or on the weekends if needed and be treated by a medical professional.”

Bruce Shepard, Walmart’s director of healthcare innovations, said, “Rutherford Regional has been recognized nationally for its quality and is a highly respected healthcare provider, so we know this venture will serve our customers and our communities well.”
