Sarah Florence Walker Goode, age 91

Sarah Florence Walker Goode, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. 

A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Eulas Erastus Walker and Bessie Lee Melton. 

She was married to the late John William Guffey, killed in World War II. She later married Robert Samuel “Sam” Goode who died in 1997. In addition, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Elizabeth Padgett of Rutherfordton and brother Thomas Clyde Walker of Texas.

She is survived by one daughter, Madge Hyatt of Rutherfordton; one brother, “Bud” Walker and wife Frances of Texas; two grandsons, David Hyatt and wife Kelly of Hampstead and Jim Hyatt and wife Charlotte of Mills River; five great grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Rachel, Kayla, and Katie Hyatt. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. 

Florence was a member of Adaville Baptist Church. She worked in the textile industry in production, business and design. She was a beautician in Forest City for many years. Attaining a national teaching certification in ceramics, she taught ceramics for non-credit adult classes at ICC. She was a talented, dedicated and natural teacher, voluntarily teaching crafts, quilting, needlework, and stitchery at various places including 20 plus years at the Rutherford County Senior Citizen Center. She was an inspiration to family and friends and will truly be missed.

The family received friends at Crowe’s Mortuary, followed by the Memorial Service in Crowe’s Chapel. Burial will be private. Rev. Cal Sayles of Adaville Baptist Church will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Rutherford County.
