Senior Master Sergeant Forrest Marvin Matheney, USAF, Retired, age 74 of Ocala, Florida passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

Forrest was born April 7, 1943 in York County, SC. He grew up in Forest City, and was a former member of Florence Baptist Church, and a graduate of Cool Springs High School in the Class of 1961. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 7, 1961 and served his country honorably until his retirement on October 1, 1983. Following his military retirement he worked as a Maintainability Engineer for Pratt & Whitney from 1983 until 2003. After 'second retirement,' he cherished his time with family and friends, traveled and worked on improving his golf game.

He was preceded in death by his father, PFC Clyde Matheney, USMC and mother, Jeanette Kiser Matheney Cole. Clyde was killed in the Battle of Sugar Loaf Hill, Okinawa, Japan during World War II when Forrest was two years old. He was further preceded by his stepfather, Euell "Bill" Cole, as well as brothers J.D. Cole and Harold Cole.

1Survivors include his beloved wife, Doris Greenlee Matheney, a daughter, Sharon Matheney Furlong and husband Dale, a son, Barry Matheney and wife Bonnie, brothers, Jim Cole and wife Barbara and Dean Cole and wife Mary as well as four grandchildren.

A Memorial service was held in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating and a eulogy given by his son, Barry Matheney. Interment of his ashes followed at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC with military honors accorded by the United States Air Force.
