Sgt. James Joel Hoyle, USAF, (Ret.), age 83

Sgt. James Joel Hoyle, USAF, (Ret.), age 83 of Forest City passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020.

Joel was born on July 10, 1936 in Buford, SC and was a son of the late Wib and Jennie Waters Hoyle. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, and was past president of the Billy Wells Sunday School Class.

Joel served over twenty years in the United States Air Force where he retired at the rank of Technical Sergeant. After his military career he worked locally for Watts Regulator. He also served for many years with the Rutherford County Honor Guard and was a member of the DAV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Maney Hoyle, his son, Jim Hoyle, his daughter, Donna Beheler, his sister, Melba Hoyle Powell, a brother, Bruce Hoyle, two grandsons, and his step-son, Dan Melton.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Melton Hoyle of the home, his daughters, Sherry Carson and husband Bennie, and Regina Lovelace all of Forest City. There are five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The memorial service was held in The Padgett and King Chapel. Military honors were accorded following the service on the chapel lawn.
