With the development of the new festival grounds for the Snuffy Jenkins Festival at Globe Park in Forest City, the venue for the annual event has changed to a more bluegrass friendly outdoors. This year six groups were presented starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 7th. The festival, named for an old time banjo player and an early proponent of the three finger style, Snuffy Jenkins from Harris, Rutherford County, North Carolina, took on a different meaning. It became a benefit for David Wiseman, born in Spruce Pine and now from Granite Falls. The acclaimed mandolin player has been diagnosed with Wegener’s Granulomatosis, a rare disorder in which blood vessels become inflamed, making it hard for blood to flow. The cause is unknown. It mainly affects blood vessels in the nose, sinuses, ears, lungs and kidneys, although other areas may be involved. It is most common in middle age adults. The condition requires prolonged and serious treatment.

As a consequence, this years Snuffy Jenkins Festival, with no admission charge, asked everyone to donate at the festival to help David Wiseman offset his impending medical expenses.

Rutherford Arts Council Director, Matthew McEnnerney said that: “David has donated his services on numerous occasions over the years in support of our programs. He has always been one of the first to step up when others needed help. He is an accomplished mandolin, fiddle and guitar player as well as a wonderful singer. He’s helped others in a time of need.”

On Sunday, October 7th well over $2000 was raised to give to David Wiseman who has always given of himself. If you were unable to attend but would like to help, you may do so by sending a contribution to: David Wiseman c/o Rutherford County Arts Council, P.O. Box 44, Forest City, N. C. 28043
