Sonny Greene, age 78

Sonny Greene, age 78, of Forest City, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018.

Born December 4, 1939 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Leebron Greene, Sr. and Margaret Crowe Greene. He worked in textiles most of his life which included Cone Mills-Cliffside Plant and Burlington Industries. Sonny was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He will forever be known as a man of strong faith and was fully dedicated to his Lord and Savior, his family and to his church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Baker and a brother, Ronnie Green.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty years, Yvonne Greene; one son, Larry Greene and wife, Martha of Rutherfordton; three daughters, Melissa Wise and husband, Harold of Chesnee, SC, Teresa Oliver and husband, Ray of Cliffside and Sherri Prescott and husband, Alan of Forest City; two brothers, Hal Greene of Forest City and Mike Greene of Polkville. Eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was conducted at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Forest City. Rev Matt Mills and Rev Bob Philbeck officiated.

Memorial donations are respectfully requested to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Youth Ministry Fund or to the Building Fund, 397 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, Forest City, NC 28043.
