Legion baseball

Post 423 has started out 6-0 on the year and have a pretty strong cast of players on the roster this season. A year ago, they were a force to reckon with, but now that the majority of the team is back, they could be harder to knock out this season. However, they are now on graduation break and will not return to the field until June 20th when they face Cherryville at home.

Forest City Owls

The Owls are now 5-4 on the season and maybe showing some better signs of life after a 17-1 win to end the week. Forest City will host this Friday and upcoming Monday at 7pm.

I also like the fact that the CPL is trying to push the pace of play this season. It's been a long time coming. I am in favor of the rule changes with the two minutes between each half inning before resuming play. Pitchers now have five warm up pitches, Coaching mound visits are now limited to six. Of course, the biggest rule change may have to do with ending the game. You already have a run in scoring position to start the 10th inning if the two teams go to extras.

NASCAR

The Cup Series saw the fourth repeat winner of the season. Clint Bowyer joined the ranks of Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. as winning twice or more this year after winning at Michigan this past weekend. Bowyer, who had a huge winning slump has now won twice this season. It's interesting since Tony Stewart seems to be the only person to really believe in Bowyer's capabilities. Even Bowyer himself was becoming a doubter. No question, it's one of the biggest comeback stories of the year considering his debacle at Richmond a few years ago. Although, Michael Waltrip Racing put him in that situation and Bowyer followed team orders to keep his job, it almost did him in.

College World Series

UNC made it last week after a sweep of Stetson. The Tarheels have to face the team I believe to beat left in the tournament...Oregon St. Washington has been pretty solid too. At press time, Duke was vying for one of the final spots. Duke nor UNC have ever made it to the CWS in the same year, but it could happen.

NBA

It's no surprise that Golden State topped Lebron and the Cavs, but I saw Cleveland snatching one game. The Cavs blew a lead in at least two of those games, but Kevin Durant was just unstoppable this series. Cleveland had nobody to help James match his own offense and that's the deal. I feel like Lebron will leave the Cavs again, but to the Lakers or somewhere else...I don't know.

The Stanley Cup went to Washington this past week as they defeated the upstart team from Vegas and Justify won the Triple Crown of horse racing. Those two feats are hard to accomplish, especially the Triple Crown. It's happen 13 times and only five in the last 40 years. Trainer Bob Baffert has won the Triple Crown twice in the last four years and only one other has done that.
