Well, it's Spring Break, here is an update on the local sports scene with some basketball and racing as well.

Baseball

R-S Central (10-1, 8-1) The Hilltoppers lead the SWC by one game over South Point. They host the Red Raiders on the April 13th.

East Rutherford (4-6, 4-5) They have split with South Point and R-S Central during this last four game stretch. East is stuck in a three-team traffic jam for third in the SWC for now.

Chase (1-10, 1-8) Six of the last seven games, the Trojans have lost by three runs or less.

Softball

All three county schools in the SWC are fighting for the top spot.

R-S Central (10-2, 8-1) Have won 4 straight. Haley Wilson, Haley White and Brooke Vance all have 10 RBI's or more this season.

East Rutherford (9-4, 6-2) Have won three in a row. Defensively they are getting better by only allowing more than four runs once in the last eight contests.

Chase (7-2, 6-2) Have won three in a row. They host East Rutherford on April 10th.

Girls Soccer

R-S Central (7-2, 2-0) Won three in a row, beating Shelby easily and East in overtime last week.

Chase (3-3-1, 1-1) Defensively still playing well. They have won two of the last four and yielded no more than goal in each of those games. Play at East Rutherford April 10th.

East Rutherford (2-5-2, 1-1) Good defense, but scoring struggles continue. Only allowed three goals once in the last seven matches.

Thomas Jefferson (6-5-1, 6-3) They won twice last week and set themselves up well with six games to go to finish no worse than second in conference if all goes right.

NASCAR

Last Monday wasn't exactly the typical Martinsville. It was very mundane, if you will. However, I was extremely impressed with and happy for Clint Bowyer, who broke 190-race winless streak. Bowyer dominated the second half of the event and Stewart-Haas Racing now has four wins in six races this season. It had been five years since the last Bowyer Cup victory. Bowyer should win again this season, he has a ride and team capable and now a confident driver behind the wheel.

Ryan Blaney, A.J. Allmendinger and Alex Bowman all had much needed top 10 runs.

As for this weekend, they head to Texas. With this being 1.5-mile facility, Martin Truex Jr. is my pick since he has lately dominated that style of track.

Finally, I hate to say it, but the Women's College Basketball Championships are showing better than the Men at the end. I never saw UCONN getting beat two years in a row after how well they have played the last two seasons. It was their title to lose. Notre Dame may have the player of the year and at least Miss Clutch (Aricke Ugonbowale, who won them a national championship to beat UCONN and Miss. St.
