Last week, Forest City opened up the second half of their Coastal Plain League season. If they have a chance to make the CPL postseason, this is the time to make something happen. So far, they are 1-1 on the season and they were up by five runs on Martinsville Sunday when rain suspended play. The Owls also posted their biggest win of the season on July third, a 15-4 win over the Hi-Toms. Forest City will host Florence on July 10 and go to Gastonia on July 11.

Legion Baseball: Rutherford County might have backed into the playoffs, but they have fought in the best of five series. At last update, Post 423 was down two games to one as they faced Caldwell County. Rutherford County's lone win in the series was a game two 5-3 victory at McNair Field. If Rutherford County were to win the series, they would likely face Shelby.

Well, it strange to even think, but we are less than a month from high school football season as first practices begin. We are less than six weeks from the first regular season game. R-S Central and East Rutherford will open up at home. Chase and Thomas Jefferson would be on the road in week one on August 21.

Women's World Cup Soccer: Who would have thought that the United States would take home the Cup?

They went up by four goals in the first half against Japan and cruised from that point in a 5-2 victory in Vancouver.

Not until the 2-0 defeat of Germany did reality set in which put them in the finals. The U.S. defense played as well as one could ask throughout the whole tournament. However, the offense was lackluster and impatience at times. Against Germany and Japan, they were the aggressors, they possessed the ball like they needed to find scoring chances and it worked out in the end. This might have been Abby Wambach's last World Cup, but if it was, she led them well.

Carli Lloyd, and Hope Solo were huge. The U.S. defense is still fairly young, so they could still be a fairly worthy competitor four years from now. More importantly, America needed this Cup to feel a bit more united. There's only one thing left to say...USA...USA...USA!
