Sylvia Pritchard Biggerstaff, 100, of Rutherfordton, was born on August 27, 1913 and returned unto the presence of the Lord on Friday, August 30, 2013.

She was a native of Avery County, North Carolina and the daughter of the late Elam Pritchard and Vettie Wilson Pritchard of Altamont. She was married to Joe Ray Biggerstaff on January 2, 1930 and they celebrated over 56 years together before his passing on July 3, 1986.

She was a home maker who used her enormous talents to assist her husband on the family farm and dairy. She loved gardening, raising livestock, canning home grown fruits and vegetables and opening her home to the generations of family and friends who would come to visit from near and far. Her greatest talent and her most enduring legacy are the quilts that she handcrafted over the decades.

For many years she was an active member of the Green Hill Community Club, the Green Hill School PTA and was a faithful member of Green Hill Baptist Church. She had recently been a resident of Oak Grove Health Care.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Biggerstaff of Rutherfordton; four sisters, Dovie Stamey of Altamont, Pauline Pyatt Cutherbertson of Pineola, Ruby Harris of Crossnore and Margaret Braswell of Hudson; and three brothers, Darius Pritchard of Crossnore, Dillard Pritchard of Raleigh and Delma Penley of Crossnore.

Survivors include a son, Lee Biggerstaff and wife Carolyn of Rutherfordton; a daughter, Sarah Jo Lattimore and husband Rodney of Forest City; and a daughter in-law, Betty Wright Biggerstaff of Rutherfordton, eight grandchildren, David Biggerstaff and wife Angie, Noel Sisk and husband Perry, Kathy Huckabee, Karen Patterson and husband Randy, Joshua Calvert and wife Caroline, Shawn Calvert and wife Andrea and Klint Lattimore, all of Rutehrfordton, also Karsen Spain and husband Brandon of Durham; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-garndchildren. Also surviving are two sisters; Floretta Colvert of Lenoir and Florence Curtis of Wilmington, and a brother; Damon Pritchard of Altamont.

Funeral Services were held at Green Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, and was led by the The Rev. Mr. John Baker, The Rev. Mr. Joshua Calvert and Dr. Robert Earle Morgan. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
