Sylvia Updegraff Lancaster, 76, of Forest City, NC passed away on June 6, 2014.
She was born on February 6, 1938, to the late Thelma B. Updegraff and Thomas M. Updegraff. She had been a resident of Rutherford County for the last 15 years.
Sylvia married her husband, James A. Lancaster, Jr. on November 22, 1956 and they remained together for 56 years, until his passing in 2013.
Sylvia is well known for her passion for quilting and won many awards for the intricate hand-quilting and hand-appliquéd works of art that she created.
She is survived by two sons, Tim Lancaster of Raleigh, NC and Chris Lancaster of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by three sisters, Teresa Bourne (Bob) and Sally Norman, both of Rutherfordton, NC and Mary Gregg (Buddy) of Lake Lure, NC; and by two brothers, Allen Updegraff (Linda) of Corsicana, TX and Paul Updegraff (Ruth) of Raleigh, NC.
The family is planning a memorial service to be held in Raleigh at a date to be determined.

Crowe’s Mortuary and Crematory is serving the family of Mrs. Lancaster.
