You might say that the recent tornado in Rutherford County has had its’ benefit. Because of this terror of nature, “Twistfest” - a new event to help raise money for anyone affected within the community - was conceived and held it’s first benefit concert on Saturday, May 12th. It was held at the Golden Valley Music Park in Bostic. The setting was great and on the stage, six bands entertained those that took the time to enjoy the afternoon and evening and came out to support this new organization.

“Twistfest is a great idea! It is a preventative maintenance program that stands ready not only to raise funds, but also to assist anyone harmed by a natural disaster. This event should grow and get bigger every year and definitely deserves the support of the community. Those who volunteered their time and attention deserve to be thanked. The best way to do that is to support their efforts. Curt Hall, Jerry Dunaway, Leniece Lane, Brian Yelton, Shanda Martens, and Heather Martinez are to be commended for “making this happen.

The name they choose, is obviously derived from tornados being referred to as “twisters”. The program is just like having a volunteer fire department or police standing by to help when needed.

The recent tornados in Rutherford County made us more than aware of how we need to prepare ourselves, friends and neighbors within the community, for nature’s destructive wrath! Fortunately, there were no fatalities in this years’ tornado. That, in itself, was a blessing. However, the destruction it created, left people homeless and in desperate need.

For all the Rutherford County sponsors who came forth to support this newly created idea, you are to be commended for your spirit of and for the community. Without your help, it may not have happened.

This year, families came to not only support, but enjoy a wonderful day at the Golden Valley Music Park. If you would care to get involved in this exciting and beneficial “neighbor to neighbor” program, you can by calling Leniece Lane at (828) 289-4010.

It is not only rewarding, but gives you an opportunity to be a part of a great emerging program.
