The 19th Annual Kids & Cops event was held June 24 at the Charles Summey Park in Forest City

During the annual event children and their parents took part in a variety of fun and educational activities. Law enforcement and local agencies also had booth with information and giveaways available.

Awards were given this year to those who took part as follows:

Law Enforcement: Best Uniform - North Carolina Highway Patrol; Best Patrol Vehicle - Rutherfordton Police Department; Best Community Policing Display - Rutherford County 911; Best Educational Display - North Carolina Wildlife; Best Specialized Unit - ATF (Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms); Best Traffic Unit - Columbus Police Department; Best Overall Police Display 1st Place - Gaston County Police; 2nd Place - Rutherford County Sheriff's Office; and 3rd Place - Polk County Sheriff's Department.

Fire/Rescue: Best Rescue Unit & Best Overall Rescue Display - Rutherford County Rescue; Best EMS Unit - Rutherford County EMS; Best Fire Truck 1st Place - Ellenboro Fire Department; and 2nd Place - Bostic Fire Department.

Other agencies: Best Educational Display - Rutherford Regional; Best Overall Display 1st Place - Community Pet Center; 2nd Place - Family Resources; and 3rd Place - Rutherford County Family & Children's Dentistry.

Sponsors for the event included Papa John's Pizza, Sun-Drop, Walmart and Lowe's Home Improvement.
