"It's been a lot of hard work by a group of volunteers to make this happen and to get an 18 game schedule in our first year, as well as getting into a state association, has been challenging, yet rewarding." said Ryan Elkins, volunteer coach, on the inaugural basketball season. "These aren't top notch basketball players or athletes but they are great kids learning to play the game of basketball while also learning life lessons like teamwork, focus, dedication and perseverance. We are planning on having a girl's softball team this year and next year we plan to add girl's volleyball, boy's soccer, cross country and golf. It's an exciting time at TMA!"

According to their website, www.themastersacademync.com, "The Master's Academy is a classical, interdenominational Christian school offering a college preparatory program for students in K3-12th grade. Our goal in education is not limited to the question "what has the student learned?", but rather "Who has the student become?" The passion the teachers extend to the students results in genuine enthusiasm for learning and developing in multiple areas of their lives. At the Academy, we are interested in changing lives from the inside out. We desire to be a galvanizing force in changing the lives of our students. This is not a vision we have attained, but it is a vision that serves as the driving force of our energies. Our purpose is to work alongside the family and the church to equip young people with a love for God, a personal relationship to Jesus Christ, a knowledge of the Scriptures, a Christian view of life and the world, and the academic skills necessary to be a productive, fruitful Christian in today's world. We desire to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, social and physical growth needs of our students."

"Great program and experience for both my boys. This is the first year they have ever played and it has been a joy to be a part of. Coach Elkins is a class act and very knowledgeable about the sport." - Euva Henson Davis

Mr. Jonathan Storlie, who teaches Science at the Academy, is serving as the school's Athletic Director and coaching the girl's team. Volunteers Mr. Ryan Elkins and Mr. Brad Rudolph are coaching the boys. "We have a JH girl's team (6-8 grades), a JV boys team (6-10 grades), and a varsity boy's program (9-12 grades). We are members of the CSAA, (Carolina State Athletic Association) which is made up of Christian and charter schools in NC/SC and are a registered Maxpreps school for our Varsity program." reported Elkins.

"TMA basketball is off to a good start in their inaugural season. The coaching staff has shown great patience and care for the athletes. The teams range in experience from those with years on the court to those with absolutely no time on the court prior to this season. Looking forward to many years of growth and success in the athletics department!" - Bobby Kramer

The Master's Academy is excited to announce that it has partnered with home-schoolers in the area making it possible for them to be a part of TMA's athletic program. This year, seven home-schoolers participated. With a student body of approximately 90 students, TMA has room to grow and wants the community to know there are scholarships available for tuition assistance. They have a Special Needs program and their Dual Enrollment agreement with Isothermal Community College makes it possible for students to graduate with both a high school and 2yr. associate's degree at the same time.

Coach Elkins invites everyone to visit the Lion's facebook page at www.facebook.com/TMALIONSBASKETBALL. Loaded with photographs posted by proud parents, it's clear to see that these students are enjoying themselves. Links for the Opportunity Scholarship Applications (NC Vouchers) are posted there and with the deadline for applications quickly approaching on February 28th, TMA encourages you to call soon. The Master's Academy is located at 1071 South Broadway Street in Forest City and can be reached at 828-229-3172.
