Well, I accidentally skipped a week and since I haven't said anything, let's get down to business. And we start on the diamond.

Coastal Carolina. It's hard to believe that the school from Conway, SC wins the College World Series...but they did it!

Coastal Carolina won their first National Title in any sport. On the baseball field in Omaha, the Chanticleers made a huge impact on never counting out Cinderella. They beat em all! Most of the team was from South Carolina in general, but there was no way that anybody could have penciled them in to win it all. Coach Gary Gilmore guided his team in his 21st season and won it all at his alma mater. He deserved it! He seemed to have done things the right way. Maybe this guy has a little Dabo Swinney magic, but whatever it is, Coastal better keep him.

Post 423 made the playoffs after recovering from an 0-5 start and actually beat Shelby in the first round this past week. They take on the boys from Union County this week.

The Forest City Owls split this week as they open up at 2-2 in the second half of the season. They sit third in the second half standings and fifth overall in the West Division among win percentage. If Forest City can win the second half of the division, they make the playoffs. They could also get in by way of being among the top four teams in the West Division on win percentage. If two different teams win a half of the season, then only two remaining spots are left to be filled. The Owls have 20-plus games to make it happen.

The Rutherford County Senior League All-Stars will be in Winston Salem this weekend to try and capture a state title. These guys are compiled of 14/15 year olds from the Rutherfordton, Chase and Forest City District. Good luck! Rutherfordton will host the Intermediate League Baseball All-Stars this weekend (July 15) at Crestview Park for the state tourney.

NASCAR: Who is for real? Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski have all shown strong this season. Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Logano and even Chase Elliott remain consistent enough to stay in the top ten in points.

There have been some good finishes this year. I still wonder about Tony Stewart's win in Sonoma. Don't get me wrong, he should have lost in the last two laps of the race after a mishap in the same corner on both laps. However, Tony deserved to win for holding off most everybody for the last leg of the event and it was a great story. Denny Hamlin, who was leading in the final lap denies that he let Smoke win after the two traded paint. It will be a question for a long time to come. Regardless, it was nice to see Tony win.

I will take Joey Logano this weekend in Loudon. Kyle Busch should be close by.

Lastly, it's just five weeks from Week One of High School Football. For those who can't wait, Team Previews with Conference projections will takes place around the first week of August.
