Thomas F. "Tommy" McSwain, age 89

Thomas F. "Tommy" McSwain, age 89, of Louisburg, NC and a native of Rutherford County, passed away September 30, 2015.

Born February 12, 1926 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Buster McSwain and Mamie Louvetta Moore McSwain. He served in the US Army and was a World War II veteran. Tommy was an administrator for the State of North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement Agency for thirty-four years. During his service for the State of North Carolina he also worked as a Highway Patrolman, and a training instructor. He was an avid baseball player, having played amateur baseball. He was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Henrietta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two sisters, Mildred McSwain Forbes and Inez McSwain Grant; one brother, George McSwain.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Melda Furr McSwain; daughter, Debra McSwain Chambers and husband, Charles of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Chambers and Michael Alan Chambers; one great-grandson, Jackson Reid Chambers. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret McSwain Yelton of Charlotte.

Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Interment followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
