Thomas William “Bill” Mathis, 84

Thomas William “Bill” Mathis, 84, of Rutherfordton, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015.

A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Jack and Maude Sisk Mathis, and the last of eleven children. Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church, a US Army Korean veteran, and retired from the maintenance department of Duke Energy.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Sandra Armstrong and husband Danny of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Morgan Armstrong, Matt Powell and Tori Powell; special friend, Marie Ingle; special caregiver Rita Agnell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Sims Mathis and son Mickey Powell.

Memorial services were held at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Stephenson officiating. Military honors were rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
