TJCA and East at a combined 10-0

TJCA and East at a combined 10-0

It's unusual for two teams in Rutherford County to be 5-0 on the football field at one time. I actually can't find it anywhere in the record books. Thomas Jefferson and East Rutherford will hit the road and try to go to 6-0 this week.

Thomas Jefferson (5-0) at Pine Lake Prep (3-2)

Last week, Nomi McMullens ran for 245 yards and contributed for five touchdowns in a major 38-20 win over Cherryville at home. The win gives them the inside track to win the Southern Piedmont 1A since North Lincoln beat conference foe Bessemer City already and Bessemer City beat Mountain Island Charter last week. Mountain Island had been dubbed as one of the favorites. This is the most athletic Cherryville team I have seen in maybe a decade or so.

Last Friday was also a big night for Chance Sutton on defense with a number of quarterback pressures and tackles on the evening.

"The big question coming into the game in my mind was whether or not we could stop their run game. Thomas Jefferson Head Football Coach Jerry Cash said "Despite the fact we made some mistakes in areas, I was impressed by how our defense stepped up to the challenge tonight."

Thomas Jefferson allowed (-8) yards rushing in the first half and 27 rush yards overall in the game.

TJCA will go to Pine Lake Prep this coming Friday. Kris Petroski, who has 648 yards rushing already on the years and Jon Whelan, who has 526 yards passing leads them. This is by far the toughest team Pine Lake has faced all season. Thomas Jefferson 42-12.

East Rutherford (5-0) at Polk (1-4)

The Cavaliers were off last week, but they go to Columbus and face Polk County.

Polk is led by Cameron Blackwell and Matt Yoder, but they are undermanned this time around. The injury bug bit them in week one, week two and week three. Polk beat Chase, but lost to R-S Central already this season.

Give me East Rutherford 48-6.

R-S Central

The Hilltoppers were behind the eight ball from the start despite winning the JV game Thursday, Friday night's game was not to be. Mitchell dominated with five rushing touchdowns on 263 yards in a 45-0 rout.

R-S Central (1-5) is off this Friday, but will return to action the following Friday when they go to East Rutherford.

Avery at Chase (1-4)

Unfortunately, the same fate R-S Central was dealt, the same could be said for Chase. Brevard treated the guest to a 44-0 loss.

The Trojans do get some reprieve as they get Avery this Friday night at home.

Last year, Chase was doing fine against Avery until former Chase QB Xavier Williams go injured and they ended up losing 34-17.

The Trojans are more athletic than the Vikings, if they can eliminate mistakes then Chase wins 20-14.

Well, Tiger Woods is back. I wasn't sure if it would ever happen again. However, he is a winner. Some overcome things and others don't. Even if we disagree with his position at times in his personal life. It took him a long time to also recover from injury. Congrats to Tiger and to golf. It's a win for both.
