Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy: A Challenge Foundation Academy (TJCA-CFA) will begin its 17th year Thursday, Aug. 20. TJCA-CFA serves 1,320 students in grades K-12 on two campuses,

TJCA offers the strength of the Core Knowledge Curriculum developed at the University of Virginia for grades K-8, and a classical curriculum high school model that includes two years of Latin and Logic study and a year of rhetoric in addition to core courses in each year of high school. Visual arts and music are required core classes in grades K-8, and elective courses through high school to enable students to pursue theater, orchestra or dance.

Student success in a challenging academic environment continues to be the signature of TJCA-CFA. This past year, TJCA-CFA was one of only three schools nationwide to be recognized as a "Core Knowledge School of Distinction", and was the only school in our region to earn an "A" grade from the State Board of Education for high academic achievement.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Washington Post and US News and World Report recognized TJCA-CFA in the top 1 percent of high schools nationwide when measuring college readiness through state exams and Advanced Placement course criteria. Our 83 graduates of the Class of 2015 were awarded more than $7.3 million from the colleges they applied to attend, nearly doubling the offers to any prior graduating class! Graduates will be heading to Johns Hopkins U, Davidson, Clemson, Berea, UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, College of Charleston, Gardner-Webb University and a host of other four year programs. Many graduates have earned Advanced Placement college course credits, allowing them to bypass large core requirement freshmen classes and move right into smaller sophomore level classes.

In athletics, TJCA-CFA completed its second year in the 1A Southern Piedmont Conference and again placed second in the conference for the Wells Fargo Cup competition. Coaches and athletes are again enthusiastic about our team prospects this coming year under the leadership of ten year TJCA-CFA veteran Mike Caldwell as Athletic Director. The addition of Dean of Students, David Davis, a graduate of RS Central who played football at Baylor University, will help to strengthen our coaching staff as he will direct our basketball programs and coach the men's varsity basketball team.
