Toyota Ruled at Daytona in Close Finish

Four of the top five finishers in the 2016 Daytona 500 were Toyotas, but that's not the whole story.

Matt Kenseth looked like he would win his third Daytona 500, but teammate Denny Hamlin had something to say about that. Coming off the fourth turn on the final lap, Hamlin got a huge push from Kevin Harvick that propelled his Fed Ex Toyota to Kenseth's. Kenseth blocked the outside, but Hamlin had enough momentum to go back inside. Hamlin stuck the middle of a three wide battle to the checkered flag, but Kenseth would get loose as his car made contact with Kenseth's. The contact allowed Hamlin left to battle just Martin Truex Jr. Some contact and a side draft right before the line gave Hamlin his first Daytona 500 win in the closest finish ever in the event. Kenseth ended up 14th.

Still, you can't blame Hamlin for the moves at the end! Kenseth was fully aware of that and more disappointed with himself than Hamlin. It's the Daytona 500 after all! Kenseth shouldn't feel too bad, he already has two, but to finish like it did, it's understandable as to how he would feel.

Notes: Martin Truex Jr. finished fourth in the points standing a year ago and it doesn't look like he will back down from being a contender in 2016. A second to start the year...not bad at all.

Austin Dillon finished ninth on Sunday. In July he violently crashed at the finish in Daytona. While it doesn't always happen, Dillon got the best of Daytona...this time.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. looked strong, but aerodynamics caused him to crash. Many were hoping for a win since his father passed away 15 years ago in the same race.

As for playoff basketball, R-S Central's girls are the only team to get a home games. Should they win Tuesday and Thursday, they would definitely be at home again on Saturday.

East Rutherford boys, East Rutherford girls, Thomas Jefferson boys and R-S Central boys all started the playoffs on the road and likely will be there, should they stick around.

Wrestling: Congrats to Austin Neal (R-S Central) who won the 2A Championship in the 120 Division. Same goes to Sammy Peticos (Chase), who took home the 132 Weight Division in 2A. R-S Central's Caleb Spears represented well as he finished runner-up in the 152 Division of 2A.
