Travis Anthony Foster, age 50, of Forest City, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

Born May 27, 1964 in Rutherford County, he was the son of Jimmy Foster & Linda Butler Foster of Forest City.  He was a 1982 graduate of Chase High School and attended and graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University and Western Carolina University.  Travis worked for CNC as a staffing coordinator and district manager. While following his passion as an educator, he taught at Burke Alternative School in Morganton and was instrumental in forming the Engleman Charter School of Arts in Hickory. His concern and heart for students led him to Burns Middle School, where he taught “at risk” students and also coached football and golf. Later his desire to teach would lead him to be the “More at Four” teacher at Sunshine Elementary School. He was a member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church. 

Travis was a volunteer for the Special Olympics and loved music, creative writing, reading, body building, gardening, doing yard work and was a sportsman.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jarrett Foster; grandmother, Connie T. Butler; grandparents, Glen & Bernice Foster; aunt, Mary Helen Metcalf.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 14 years, Tracy Foster; brother, Brian Foster & wife, Kim of Wilson; grandfather, James “Bud” Butler & wife, Jean of Forest City; 2 uncles, Ron Butler & wife, Cathy of Asheville & Jerry Foster & wife, Donna of Shelby; 2 aunts, Joyce Hughey & husband, Dean of Gaffney & Brenda Dalton & husband, Jimmy of Ruth, 2 nephews, Zack & Matt Foster; his god son, Jacobi; a host of cousins.

Funeral services were conducted at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. 

Memorial donations are suggested to the Floyd’s Creek Honduras Mission Fund, 2004 Chase High Rd, Forest City, NC  28043.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.
