Truman Robert “Shorty” Farmer, 84

Truman Robert “Shorty” Farmer, 84, of Mooresboro, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014. 

A native of Cleveland County, he was born on September 23, 1929, a son of the late Beeler Farmer Vena Bell Farmer. He was retired from the Hamrick Mills and was a U.S. Army Veteran and served with the Combat Engineers; he was a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He loved the outdoors, racing, bluegrass and music.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Garnett Farmer and Dewey Farmer; three sisters, Beatrice Jackson, Vernette Ellis and Cathleen Farmer.  He is survived by his wife, Mae McCraw Farmer; one son, Mickey McCraw of the home; one daughter, Tammy Ruppe of and husband Tim of Gaffney, SC; one brother, Jack Farmer and wife Mildred of Gaffney; one sister, Doris Mills and husband Britton of Gaffney; one granddaughter, Cayci Ruppe of Gaffney.

A Celebration of Mr. Farmer’s Life was held at Prospect Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Army. 

Memorial donations are suggested to the Rutherford County Honor Guard, 564 Terry Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
