Viola Gamble, 101, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013. 

A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late William Zeno and Amanda Melton Gamble. She was retired from Stonecutter and a member of First Baptist Church, Spindale. Upon her retirement, Viola became a devoted caregiver for her parents and other relatives. She had a sweet disposition and a deep love for family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are nieces Dorothy Culbertson, Shirley Tomblin and Charlotte Womack; nephews James Harris, Cecil Harris, Frank Harris, Steve Gamble, Don Johnson and Jim Rollins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Lillie Harris, Sue Rollins, Malonia Blankenship, Louise Rollins, Georgia Johnson, Grace Turner; brother Jennings Gamble, and nephew Harold Gamble.

Funeral services were held at Crowe Mortuary with Rev. John Baker officiating. Interment followed in First Broad Baptist Church cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

The family would like to thank Mike and Arlene Smith and the staff of Oakland Living Center for the loving care they have given Miss Gamble and her family.

Crowe’s Mortuary is serving the family of Miss Gamble.
