Violinist Lucia Micarelli program free for students

On Sat., Jan. 27 as part of their 2017-2018 Season, The Foundation Performing Arts Center, on the campus of Isothermal Community College in Spindale, will present An Evening with Lucia Micarelli, an exciting evening of music that moves from classical to jazz to traditional fiddle music and Americana.

Students from area colleges or school systems will be able to get one free ticket to the concert. Any accompanying non-student adult will be required to purchase a ticket.

"In providing free admission for students, we are taking this opportunity to offer them a chance to experience a young, classically trained musician with a broad musical background, who has found success in multiple genres," says Foundation Director Russell Wicker. "Especially for music students, Lucia represents the epitome of hard work and dedication to one's craft."

A superb classical musician, Lucia is recognized throughout the world for being a featured soloist with Josh Groban, Chris Botti, Barbara Streisand and Jethro Tull, and also for her starring role on the critically acclaimed HBO series Treme.

Throughout the program Lucia showcases pieces near and dear to her heart, while including stories and insight between songs, all bound together by her trademark emotional vulnerability and technical wizardry. Song selections include the traditional fiddle tune "Ladies Fancy" and the Steve Earle penned "This City". Lucia will cover songs from the Great American Song Book such as "Someone To Watch Over Me" and "Nature Boy" while also performing classical compositions from Maurice Ravel, John Corigliano, and Samuel Barber. Ms. Micarelli will be accompanied by her six piece ensemble.

Tickets are available in advance or at the door. For free tickets, college students should present a valid student ID. All seating is reserved, and the concert begins at 7:30PM. For more information, you can call 828-286-9990 or visit www.FoundationsShows.org
