Virginia Hardin Newton, 95, formerly of Forest City, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018.

She was a native of Rutherford County, born May 12, 1922. Mrs. Newton was the daughter of the late Jay Talmadge Hardin, Sr. and Mary Jo Reep Hardin and widow of the late Jack T. Newton, who passed in 2005. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Forest City where she was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class, and was a graduate of Cool Springs High School. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Doris Donegan and Nellie Lemerond; and a brother, Jay T. Hardin, Jr.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

The family would like to send a special thank you to Arlene and Mike Smith and the staff of Oakland Living Center for their care during the past twelve years.

Graveside services were held in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Rev Dr. Neil Haynes officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakland Living Center Activity Fund, 704 Poors Ford Rd, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 or the General Fund of First UMC Forest City, 341 East Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
