Visual Artists host 'Celebration of the Arts'

The Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild's "Celebration of the Arts" began Aug. 4 at the Visual Arts Center, 160 N. Main St., Rutherfordton. This year's celebration features three separate shows - from now until Aug. 24 photography, clay, 2D/3D mixed media and gourds are on display. Other shows scheduled are as follows - Sept. 1-21, glass, metals, jewelry, oils and acrylics; and Sept. 29-Oct. 19, wood, fibers, baskets and works on paper. This is the first year for "Celebration of the Arts" to be held at the Visual Arts Center, said Secretary Pam Peters. The move from The Foundation at Isothermal Community College has allowed for several shows, she said, which better accommodates artists and patrons. Silent auction items are also up for bid during each of the three shows. There will be extended hours during "Celebration of the Arts," Monday through Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday from 1-4pm.
