It seems like Tyler White is in for a heck of a year with Houston. White already won Rookie of the Week honors, has a .438 batting average and a .486 on-base percentage.

With four Major League homers in the books, White also has an .813 slugging percentage. That's just in the first ten games of the season! So far, he is in line for a shot at rookie of the year honors, but there is a long way to go.

Not only is he a good asset offensively, but even the Astros are happy about White's defensive IQ and playmaking so far. It's awesome to see Tyler make Rutherford County proud...as we are of him. Rutherford County is a baseball area, but very few get the chance to do what he is doing. Congratulations Tyler!

R-S Central (10-7, 7-4) remains third in the SMAC standings and first among the 2A teams in conference play. They split play last week, which included another one-run loss to first place Crest for the second time this season. They will host Chase on Friday (4/22).

East Rutherford (12-5, 6-4) won twice last week and sits fourth overall in the SMAC. They are second in the 2A portion of the SMAC. Despite an up and down year so far, they are keeping pace. They will host Draughn on 4/26.

Chase (8-7, 6-5) won twice last week and moved into a tie for fifth in the SMAC. They are now in third place among the 2A teams and would land the last remaining playoff spot from the SMAC should they stay there. The Trojans will go to R-S Central on Friday (4/22).

Thomas Jefferson (3-8, 1-8) is led by Zane Jackson, but the Gryphons conference schedule has been brutal this season. Pitching depth has also been a problem.

Softball

East Rutherford (11-3, 9-1) and R-S Central (12-2, 9-1) remained tied for first among the SMAC standings, but East Rutherford owns the head-to-head challenge at the moment. East Rutherford avenged their only SMAC loss of the season by beating East Burke 6-0 in the two wins they had last week. East Rutherford won't be back at home until April 25 with McDowell and April 26 with Draughn.

R-S Central kept pace despite getting by Draughn and Crest last week. They remain unbeaten on the road this season. R-S Central will host Chase Thursday, April 21.

Chase (5-8, 3-8) split games this past week and is seventh in the SMAC standings. Chase remains tough, but playoffs hopes are fading fast. Thomas Jefferson (2-6, 2-5) has lost two in a row, but remain competitive in the Southern Piedmont. Playoffs are unlikely, but with just 10 players, you have to admire how they are handling the adversity.

Girls Soccer

Thomas Jefferson (6-4, 4-3) split games last week, but sit fourth in a tight SPC races. The top four are separated by three games.

R-S Central (10-2, 10-1) continues to maintain second place overall in the SMAC, but have locked the No.1 seed for the 2A playoffs in the SMAC. East Rutherford (7-6, 6-4) won twice last week. They remain fourth in the SMAC and sit a ½ game ahead of Shelby for second place among the 2A conference teams.

Chase, who has just one win, continues to lose close games this season and are out of contention for the 2A playoffs.

NBA Playoffs

Right now, everybody is about the Warriors, but here at home, Charlotte is the No.6 seed in the East. They have a tough series with Miami and the Hornets haven't won a playoff game in 14 years. Sunday, they went down in game one in the best of seven. I like their chances to win a playoff game this series, but winning the overall series is a whole other thing. The Heat might just be the second best team in the East behind Cleveland.
