What a first week of Major League Baseball for Tyler White! The former Chase High grad went 9-for-13 from the plate. White smashed two homers, two doubles, picked up 7 RBI and had a batting average of .692. It will be tough to keep up that kind of hitting pace, but I guarantee he has grabbed some early season attention around the league. Of all things, White gets his first MLB home run at Yankee Stadium. That's just crazy!

High School Baseball

East Rutherford, R-S Central and Thomas Jefferson split for the week. Chase fell twice.

Softball

R-S Central and East Rutherford won twice this past week. They remained tied for the top spot in the SMAC, but East holds the overall advantage due to head-to-head competition. East beat Central 2-1 a couple of weeks ago. Chase snapped a six-game losing streak this past Friday, despite an earlier loss to start the week against East Rutherford.

Girls Soccer

Thomas Jefferson split for the week in a highly competitive Southern Piedmont 1A. The Lady Gryphons sit tied for third in the standings.

East Rutherford split their matches this week. Chase lost twice this week, but they're still not giving up many goals. R-S Central won twice this past week and stay second in the SMAC.

Schedules: April 15 R-S Central at Crest (baseball/softball); Chase at Draughn (baseball/softball/girls soccer); Bessemer City at Thomas Jefferson (baseball/softball). April 18: Pine Lake Prep at Thomas Jefferson (girls soccer). April 19: Burns at East Rutherford (baseball/softball/girls soccer); Crest at Chase baseball/softball/girls soccer).

As for The Masters, Jordan Spieth has played some great golf over the past couple of seasons. Sunday, it looked like his day again to repeat a Masters championship. Meanwhile, Danny Willett fired a 67 in the final round and picked up his first Green Jacket instead. Speith, who had a five shot leading heading down the back nine, showed that he was actually human. Spieth hasn't shown any sort of a collapse in his career to this magnitude. He was spectacular at Chambers Bay a year ago and answered every challenge he had to that day. The same happened a year ago in The Masters. Every professional athlete has a day that they don't want to ever talk about. Jordan Spieth had his Sunday.

NASCAR: Can anybody stop Kyle Busch? He has won four events in a row. He swept Martinsville (Truck/Cup) and Texas (Nationwide/Cup). Busch has 5 Bristol Cup wins and finished eighth in August there. However, he has not won a Bristol Cup race since 2011.
